sideways | The animation frames were stacked up as before, but instead of producing a 3D model, a 2D GIF animation was generated of the vertical frames formed by the stack. In other words, the dimension of time and the image's Y spatial dimension were swapped. This brings us back towards the original animation's content, with no data loss but in a considerably different form.
Though Eric came up with this particular transform for GIFs, Andrew once tried similar techniques back in 1988 while working on algorithms to speed rendering ray traced animations. |
